Last Friday, we took our usual in-office beer cart “abroad” to Aeronaut Brewing Company in Somerville. I had no idea what to expect, and pulling up to a bunch of warehouses in a residential area of Cambridge, I wouldn’t expect to find this spot.
First off, the space huge. And the smell of beer plus sizzling, buttery grilled cheese is swoon-worthy. It’s definitely a little bit funky; old school arcade games (ancient Tetris you can play on a big screen, corn hole, and the like), picnic tables, and lawn chairs hanging from the ceiling to name a few of Aeronaut’s most memorable features.
The short of it:
14 Tyler St, Somerville (~15 minute walk from Porter Square T stop)
- Good for…
- Big groups – there is something to do for everyone, and a beer for every palate. And you don’t have to worry about too much to drink and not enough to eat, there are food options throughout the space. Plus, you can also order food (pizza anyone?!) and have it delivered
- A casual / unusual date spot – there were all kinds of people there on a Friday night, older women meeting their friends, groups of younger hipster dudes, and our gang of young professionals, so there would be plenty to talk about and it’s definitely not too quiet or intimate
- Not the place for…
- Non-beer-drinkers – while there are other activities, it does center around the beer. That said, they have lots of different varieties (my favorite was The Eye of Sauvin), so you’re likely to find something you like!
- Dressing up – it’s very much a “come as you are” spot
